Heng Mountain is a fast paced gripping story of the magical journey of Heng Mountain. The author does an admirable job of weaving the Chinese culture into the characters’ lives that when I started reading the book I didn’t put it down until I was finished. I also find the cover to fit the story perfectly. If you want something to entertain you on a very different level and learn something new in the process. The book would be a good read for the summer.

A rich and thought provoking novel with sub-plots and intrigue throughout. Deep and cultural, Heng Mountain keeps the reader involved as the characters and the plot builds and develops. The pace is well maintained and leaves you fascinated with the imagination and tradition that runs through the book. I could read this again and still discover more. Looking forward to the next adventure.

5.0 out of 5 starsAdventure, mystery and secret legends set in 17th Century China

This book had it all: strong characters, ancient legends and a plot with twists and turns and keeps you turning the pages late into the night. It has an Indiana Jones style adventure, with symbols and treasures which add to the mystery of the story, however it is based in 17th century China where Jun has to journey to the mysterious and spiritual Heng mountain to protect his family against the Manchu soldiers. It is a beautifully written book which transports you back In time to China and leaves you wanting to find out more about the beliefs and traditions of the time. Would make a great film.

I have the book, the cover is stunning & feels much so much nicer than a normal paperback, I couldn't wait to read it. His style is inspiring & informative, weaving in beliefs & traditions obviously close to Mike's heart that capture the imagination & has inspired me to learn more about some of them. It was fabulous to be swept away on an adventure & feel part of the rebels' journey. As an adult I loved it & am sure it will appeal to younger readers too. I can't wait for the next one.

5.0 out of 5 starsMike is able to present his characters in such a way that they seem real and you get a good feel for the Chinese culture

I found the book a little hard to start but as I read more I found the book hard to put down. Mike is able to present his characters in such a way that they seem real and you get a good feel for the Chinese culture. As you read more the book reveals secrets from long ago kept hidden faiths. A very original & simply captivating book for young adults. You know you have read a good book when you feel a little empty and that can only be replaced by another good book!!

5.0 out of 5 starsHeng Mountain: Mystery and Intrigue at Every Turn

I was given the paperback for Christmas. Heng Mountain quickly transports you to dynastic China, weaving mystery and intrigue into every page leaving you wanting more.
The book is very cleverly written on different levels with something for every reader. Even on completion I was keen to re-read it to see what clues I had missed. Now I cant wait for Song Mountain, to see if we discover the secrets of the other temples, to find the real magic of the zodiac stones and to discover the, hinted at, 'real ' ending?
